Hey I hope you enjoy this new video! Some 370 of you got to see this early as I accidentally pressed the button that I didn't mean to press so the video was live for about a minute this morning, but here's the real version! Make sure to check out Squarespace because this video *literally* would not have happened without their support.

There's a chicken and egg scenario here. Do airlines adapt their business models in response to technological change, or do aircraft manufacturers develop new technologies in response to demand?

This is dated.. I know this the airlines don't want an exact 757 replacement.. 787 was designed to replace the 767... us carriers want a flexible design that would marry the efficiency of the 757 with size capabilities of the 767.. a single isle 757-400 that would accept a new belly container for cargo and be of carbon composite material with new 787 wing...or just down size a 787.

Here's a possible choice for the future of aviation... Google, Images, create the future Burnelli Pope . Check out the first 8 images and other 'Burnelli' designs interspersed after that. With NASA's PRSEUS composite, this plane is possible. With rapid improvements in battery weight and storage, this design is perfect to carry them AND passengers or freight with profit to spare. I'm workin' on it.

Why do people have to sit at all? With standing room, the companies would bring twice as many people into the aircraft ... What? Is it uncomfortable? There is also a solution for this, you go into your standing cabin and then sleeping gas is pumped in for the length of the flight and just before landing you are woken up ... Sounds ironic, but hey, just wait and see (^ o ^ )

Compare the productive energy density of batteries compared to aviation fuels. Batteries are not even close. Without nearly instantaneous recharging, or battery module swapping, even regional flying on chemical battery power will not happen.

They were going to make a 787-3 which would be about the same size as the 757 but the market isn’t mig enough apparently, the 787-8 is the smallest of the wide body Boeing planes with the 787-9 and 787-10 being even bigger types. The 797 hasn’t even been confirmed so I don’t expect Boeing to fill the gap, the Boeing 787-8 is so fuel efficient that companies don’t need to buy “757” similar aircraft.

The 797 won't sell like the a310 because it's a twin aisle two much air resistance for the passenger amount. Airbus needs to bring the A322 to fill the middle of the market. The have the air India main gear for the a320 series for more weight and the wing of the A321 XLR should carry an A322LR.

It's really ridiculous to talk about electric passenger aircrafts because of the battery problem. The batteries we have today just wouldn't provide the range. So breakthroughs in battery development are required first. 2030 is really a best case scenario. 2035 and 2040 are more realistic.

Місяць tagasi
Thomas Mortimore
Thomas Mortimore

Nikola Tesla that’s not the main issue. Big advantage with fuel is as the plane flies it burns it up and the plane gets lighter. If it had a battery first how does it provide thrust? And secondly it will weigh exactly the same on takeoff as it does on landing so it’s performance won’t be as good

I wish Boeing would call the new NMA the 757 dash 7,8,9. Like the new 787 and 777X. Save the 797 designation for the next model AFTER the NMA. Cause they only have the 797 left and also to me personally if the 797 is just a future 757 it will be slightly underwhelming. The 797 being the first electric model or something else revolutionary would feel more grand and fit better. Just my thoughts :)

Fabien S no. The range of the A321XLR is 4700nm. Basically it’s a 757 replacement. Best example is Aer Lingus use the LR to fly from Dublin to Hartford, Connecticut. Not many people want to fly there but those who do would rather go direct than connect in New York or Boston

Thomas Mortimore so the A321 XLR would compete with the 787-9?

Fabien S it’s ranges is 7200nm. It’s a bit too much but I see what you mean. If the range was 5500-6000nm it would be better. Also the A330 has a 287 seating at 3 classes. The 787-9 is about 216 with BA
