I love the way you pull up info and the way you present it. I wish you would do a comparison between suburban train, commuter train, elevated/ at grade light rail, c train, street car, tram, at grade/elevated/ underground metro train, mono rail, sky rail, tram bus, electric bus on grid, In terms of capacity, speed, vehicular conflict, punctuality, stop/station types, fare collection types, overhead or track level power supply options, driverless ability, visual positive or negative presentability, width required for two way transport, density of people required for 0.8km radius around station to sustain. cost of construction per km, cost of unit train, station/ stop cost, station/stop maintenance cost, driver cost, support staff cost, cost of fare collection systems and if it will be worth to collect fares, daily ridership required to sustain maintenance, payback period for each. This question might seem stupid but why is there no construction under elevated lines? Are there any restrictions for commercial residential space under an elevated line. I believe if construction is done then the lines could be less unsightly while generating revenue from establishments below.

As a pedestrian I love roundabouts at least in Sweden. All of the cars stop when I have to walk over the road so getting to places is so much faster. While waiting for the light takes forever.

Roundabouts are a terrible idea. They completely disorient the driver who has no idea which "out" to take. Went through one of them in OKC and got miserably lost. OKC is bad enough with a road map that looks like a bowl of spaghetti was dumped on the floor. I don't go to the city unless I have to.

They could regulate how many new cars can be manufactured per year. This will incentive people to either buy a used car, fix up a old car or not drive altogether (bike/walk/public transport). You limit the number of cars made you limit the number of cars on the road.

A 6 Lane Road Main Street has an extremely bad traffic equivelent of 2 Lane Main Street. This is Because people tend to go to one place which means one Lane is going to be congested and the others are bad. Highway exits mean if one Lane is to full, the rest could move to the other lanes if allowed. But mostly it ends up in even more traffic. FACT

This video is a little bit dated. The best way to ease traffic is to have a worldwide pandemic. Since March 2020, there's been little to no traffic problems anywhere! Also, there probably won't be 80,000 people crammed together to watch the Redskins play. Please provide a different analogy. :-)

Motorcycles and other smaller forms of individual transport are both fuel efficient and an efficient allocation of road real state with lane splitting. A small percentage of individuals lane splitting with motorcycles (less than 10%) is sufficient in many metropolitan areas to greatly reduce traffic congestion. Tax incentives could make scooters and motorcycles more viable in the US, particularly in southern cities with weather that's more amenable to them. Or you can just do like how the Chinese have helped to control social distancing in 2020 - legislate times for individuals to go to the grocery store and other essential businesses. There's no reason to have everyone work 8 to 5 or somewhere in that range. You can easily have half the population working in the evening time, change some companies to work Tuesday through Saturday, etc.. And now that we see that so many jobs are still just as efficient (if not more so) with working from home in this pandemic, there's no reason to not reduce congestion and wasted resources by allowing greater flexibility and work from home policies.

Here's the thing. These are great ideas, but largely ignored or plagued by government bureaucracy. Government wastes a lot of tax payer dollars on inefficient and/or ineffective solutions. My solution would be to largely turn over all this to private enterprise. Rather than government mismanagement, let those who need and use the roadways be in control. Think about it; people want to get to and from their homes, businesses want customers to get to their locations. Let these people be in charge of management, maintenance, and innovation. I don't know how every detail would play out, but I'm far more optimistic about private enterprise tackling this than I am about government dramatically improving.

The idea that enlarging a road solves nothing, because it gets packed shortly after, needs clarification. In my experience, it doesn't get *as* packed after many years, at which time it would've probably collapsed in full, should the expansion had not taken place. Additionally, the extra cars that occupy the road after the expansion are people receiving a transportation service that they wouldn't have had otherwise. If I want to visit my parents, but I give up because there's no space for me in the road... well, that's a cost that we must take in consideration.

There is also one main factor which increases traffic in spite of increased road capacities: sprawl. The more you extend an urban area, the more you produce traffic. This is, ultimately, why I-10 expansion plans in Houston will always fail, because the same freeway is one of the main catalysts for suburban expansion. By increasing density, you can optimize transit and reduce traffic.

1. Smart cars with smart real-time route systems. 2. Building more vertical routes (above / below existing routes) for increased capacity. 3. More hub n spoke transfer points between cities and neighborhoods. (Drive from home to a parking garage, get on train to exactly where you are going.) A fourth fix, which is completely time dependent, is increased technology making many current travel needs unnecessary. (Why go to work if you can work from home. Why go grocery shopping if it's delivered to your doorstep. Why go to a museum if VR can bring the museum to you.)

Another way to decrease the amount of cars on the road is simple. If you're a bunch of people going to the same place to work, then fill up a car and go together. If there are 2000 companies, and they all have 100 cars coming in. Let's say that 4 people hop into each car, that means 75% less cars out there. That's worth a thought

Busses greatly decrease the number of cars on the road when they run close to full-occupancy. And they are INCREDIBLY safer. According to CNN, for every billion miles traveled, 5.75 deaths occur in cars as opposed to 0.14 in busses, making busses 41x safer than cars.
