When I was 11, me and my mom visited Portland to visit a friend there who had recently had a baby. Since I'd never really shot a gun before, and I wanted to learn how, she let me go on a day-long shooting trip to a large space her friend's family used on their property as a shooting range. She wanted to keep some of the used bullets as a sort of memory of the first times I shot a gun, but we forgot to check them in our bag, instead leaving them in my carry-on. Lo and behold, at security they find it in the detector because the scanner had detected it. But my mom literally just told them the story of why we had them and we were out in under five minutes. It would've been inconvenient, but I honestly would've preferred if they'd held us up longer and did some further screening. It would've made me feel more secure in this country. Because anyone could put bullets in a child's bag and just invented that story as a cover-up.

10:53 sorry, hold up. Did you just say $10 or $20 tickets? _For a goddamn plane ticket?_ The shortest plane ticket I could find is about 175 miles and takes less than 3 hours to drive (its got a single direct freeway, half of which you can drive 70mph legally) and would cost me about $21.00 in gas. The flight meanwhile is $53.00 but thats only due to the pandemic causing prices to plummet, the last time I checked it was closer to $100, and the flight takes 1 hour, embarking/disembarking will take 30-60 minutes, at least 30 minutes for security, plus time at the ticket counter and such so you'd be lucky to get in and out in 2.5 hours with it easily taking 4 hours, again compared to a 3 hour drive at a fraction of the price. And everyone wonders why Americans dont use public transportation...

The easy way to make impenetrable security is to just make it almost impossible to get through it at all. I have a friend, an elementary school teacher from Minnesota, who's over 70 and had a shoulder injury resulting in a rod and some screws. Because it sets off their metal detector she gets strip searched before almost every flight. She brought a doctors note, still gets strip searched. I know you cant tell someoes a terrorist based on appearances but I doubt Al-Qaeda started recruiting 70+ year old grandmas from rural Minnesota by trawling through the local elementary schools. As if she's a suicide bomber who packed a bomb vest under her sweater

I don't care about the airport security much, I'm much more worried about the machinery of the airplane, the probability of a malfunction isn't that high, but it's never 0. There's still a chance for the airplane to crash due to internal or external problems

Apparently, I was a 3 as a mid 20's male, but I did also have a diplomat parent, so as soon as that was mentioned, the interview was over. I did get a proper pre-flight 20-minute interview once though, and I went along with all their questions, it was quite interesting since I already knew about their security but had a "secret weapon". And, on cue, once again, as soon as my parent's occupation was mentioned, they ended the interview.

It's scary to see how security standards vary between countries. From my expierience on major airports in industry countries in Europe, UAE, Japan and AUS/NZ over the past 10 years, it heavily fluctuates between strict-ish and thorough-ish and "why are those guys even here"?

@Kate Fedrick one more thing: in short, you're saying that Israel belonged to the Palestinians at some point right? well.. you're wrong. Before Israel, it was British empire. Before that, it was Ottoman Turk empire. Before that, it was Mamluk empire. Before that, it was Crusader Christian. Before that, it was Seljuk Turk. Before that it was Arab empire. Before that it was Byzantine Christian empire. Before that, it was Roman empire. Before that it was Israelite (Jewish and Samaritan) There was never a Palestinian state, flag, anthem, constitution, prime minister, president, congress, supreme court, or national identity. Nothing that we can consider as representing an independent state. fun fact: The regional Arabs were called 'Southern Syrians' but after 20 years in April 15, 1968 they started referring to themselves as the 'Palestinians' and it was invented by Arafat together with the KGB and Romanians. This is according to Russian and Romanian documentation. However even as late as 1977, their own leadership denied that they were a nation. In 1980, Syrian President Hafez Assad (Bashir’s father) said to Arafat: "Do not forget one thing: there is no Palestinian people, no Palestinian entity, there is only Syria! " This is what happens when you invent an identity.

2 päeva tagasi
Николай Якубов
Николай Якубов

@Kate Fedrick 1. Israel is the antithesis of settler colonialism. It is the first example of an indigenous people regaining their land, after being colonized and sent into diaspora! The archaeological evidence is perfectly clear. Jews are indigenous to Israel, while Arabs are indigenous to the Hejaz region, in what is now Saudi Arabia. Arabs only lived in what is now Israel because of Arab settler colonialism, in the 7th century, CE. Jewish presence in the land predates the Arabs by over 2000 years. (And by Jewish presence, I mean that Jews had developed an identity distinct from other Canaanite tribes.) Your link was produced by a very ignorant group of people, who have bought into a deliberate rewriting of history, in which Jewish history prior to the diaspora has been erased, and Arab history has been edited to remove the fact that they were a settler colonial empire. 2. did we kick the Arabs from their land? "In his memoirs, Haled al Azm, the Syrian Prime Minister in 1948-49, also admitted the Arab role in persuading the refugees to leave: “Since 1948 we have been demanding the return of the refugees to their homes. But we ourselves are the ones who encouraged them to leave. Only a few months separated our call to them to leave and our appeal to the United Nations to resolve on their return."" 3. Arab leaders (Jews were referred to as “Palestinians” pre-implementation of UN Resolution 181, which created two states in western Palestine) have rejected an Arab state west of the Jordan River 12 times since 1937: 1. July 1937 – The British Peel Commission recommended a three-way division – Arab state, Jewish state and the internationalization of Jerusalem. While the Jews were extremely unhappy with the proposed land division, they were open to negotiations. The Arabs rejected this proposal out of hand. 2. United Nations Partition Plan, November 29, 1947, Resolution 181, proposed dividing Palestine into seven sections, with three each going to the Jews and Arabs, and one surrounding Jerusalem to become a Special International Regime for the City of Jerusalem. The plan was accepted by the Jewish establishment and leadership, but was rejected by local Arab leaders and neighboring Arab governments. 3. Brits Withdrawal from Palestine and Independence Day, May 15, 1948, was a signal to the Arab armies to invade fully the Jewish areas, rather than declare an Arab state in the significant amount of land they were given by UN Resolution 181. The existing Arab nations never intended that any independent state exist west of the Jordan, but that they would capture, divide and annex the territory for themselves. The anticipated disposition of the Jews afterward resembled Hitler’s Final Solution. 4. 1949 Armistice between the Arab armies and Israel - Approximately one-quarter of the land west of the Jordan River remained in Arab control following armistice agreements. No Arab state was declared, but Egypt and Jordan kept their portions. 5. 1964 Founding of the Palestine Liberation Organization never led to an Arab state in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, but focused solely on the elimination of Israel. 6. Aftermath of the 1967 Six-Day War - Israel’s decisive victory over the Arab states in the defensive Six-Day War resulted in Israel occupying the Jordanian- or Egyptian-occupied territories of the West Bank, Jerusalem or Gaza Strip. On June 19, 1967, Israel’s National Unity Government, including Menachem Begin, voted to return captured land in exchange for peace. Rather than grasp this opportunity to create an Arab nation in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, the PLO/PNC joined the rest of the Arab world at the September 1967 Khartoum Arab Summit in responding “no peace, no recognition and no negotiation with Israel.” 7. The 1979 Camp David Peace Accords offered the Palestinians autonomy, which would almost certainly have led to full independence. They rejected any discussions. 8. The 1993 Oslo Accords led to the Declaration of Principles on Interim Self-Government Arrangements signed by Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat at the White House in September 1993, laying the groundwork for an eventual Palestinian state. However, the process was disrupted by the worst wave of Palestinian terrorism to date, later proved to be instigated at least in part by Arafat’s administration. 9. The 2000 Camp David Summit saw Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak offer upwards of 95% of the West Bank and Gaza Strip to the Palestinian Authority for an independent state. It is quite understandable that Israel – the victor in the wars of 1948 and 1967 – would not offer all of the territory, much as Ukraine retains control of much of pre-WWII Poland, Russia and Poland control much of pre-WWII Germany, China controls occupied Tibet, Morocco controls Western Sahara, etc. Arafat did not take advantage of this opportunity. 10. January 2001 - In a replay of the Camp David Summit, Olmert offered at the Taba Summit a peace deal to Arafat, who rejected it on January 3, 2001. 11. March 2006 - After Israel’s unilateral withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, the PA could have declared the beginnings of a state there. Rather, they launched thousands of rockets at Israeli civilians. Did this create a three- or really four-state solution? 12. September 2008 - Prime Minister Ehud Olmert offered 99.5% of the West Bank and Gaza and shared Jerusalem, but Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas refused any discussion. *if you're too ignorant to believe me, do your own research and be sure to stay out of Biased sources :)*

The TSA is unconstitutional and must be abolished. Airports are responsible for their own security; the govt isn't. The TSA is a complete farce; it's about training you to accept violation of your first amendment. When I go through airport security, I made a statement by wearing the shortest shorts legally allowed and a tank top that is basically a string that doesn't even cover my nipples (I hate that word). Then I say really loud so everyone will hear, "I'd like to opt out please." I'm a fucking American.

Americans simply aren't willing to put up with the loss of some civil liberties to obtain the kind of security Israel has at it's airports. Forget about the racial profiling, the questioning of every passenger that walks in the door or the loss of the convenience of online check-in alone would cause a revolt. Having said that, the government should reduce the number of TSA agents by 35-40%, double the salary of those left and provide them with the best training available.
